Mission

UMMA Center empowers and unites citizens of Lake County, IL with resources and opportunities to obtain self-sufficiency by providing access to basic needs, education, career services, and affordable housing.

Vision

UMMA envisions a world where all people have the opportunity to live a life free from poverty.

Who We Are

UMMA means “community” in Arabic, and since 2004, UMMA Center has been committed to building a stronger, more equitable Lake County. We are a nonprofit organization serving individuals and families who face barriers to opportunity. Rooted in the belief that everyone deserves the chance to thrive, our work uplifts those most impacted by poverty through direct services and long-term support.

What We Do

UMMA Center provides a holistic range of services to meet immediate needs and support lasting progress. Our programs address food insecurity, stable housing, education, and career development. From grocery access and GED preparation to job placement and housing support, we work alongside our community to build pathways to self-sufficiency and greater opportunity.

Why We Do It

We believe no one should be held back by lack of access to basic resources. When people have safe homes, food on the table, and support to pursue their goals, our entire community grows stronger. That’s why we’re here—for the individuals striving to change their lives, and for the future we’re building together.
