FOOD PANTRY:
Food Pantry deliveries come in once a month to the UMMA Center. Staff needs assistance in unloading food and boxes, unpacking and stacking food on shelves and creating food bags to be distributed to the community. Must be able to lift at least 15 lbs at a time. TEACHERS ASSISTANT – COMPUTER CLASS:
UMMA Center offers computer training at a basic and intermediate level twice a week- Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6-8 PM. Because this is one of our most popular programs, classes fill up quickly. We are looking for a teacher’s assistant who is very familiar with computers to assist students in their work, and work along with the teacher during class. Classes are eight weeks long, so a commitment of 16 hours (two hours, once a week) would be appreciated, although all volunteers with varying schedules are welcome. GED INSTRUCTOR:
Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Science and/or Math. GED Classes are provided for clients to acquire their General Education Diploma, which is equivalent to a high school degree. We are looking for volunteer instructors to teach these prep courses for the exam. A commitment of at least 2 hours a week (in class) for five to six weeks (total 12 hours) is needed. Eligible candidates can also volunteer to teach more than one subject area. All teachers are required to have at least a bachelors degree. Curriculum is provides straight from GED prep text book provided by center. Must be able to work with a variety of ages and skill sets. TUTORING:
Clients in our GED program often need extra tutoring in their subject of choice. Tutors must be high school graduates, and provide up to 2 hours of time a week for however many weeks they and the student are available. Scheduling is flexible.
