2011 Internship: Volunteer Refugee Outreach Summer Intern
The UMMA Center, a 501(c)(3) grassroots non-profit organization, seeks a Volunteer Refugee Outreach Summer Intern to work on the popular, annual Ramadan Refugee Outreach Program. UMMA Center’s Refugee Outreach focuses on providing basic aid gift packages to over 100 newly arrived refugee families in the Chicago land area. Primary responsibilities will involve planning and implementing the annual gift aid drive. The annual program is expected to end in the mid- August. An engaging and energetic personality is essential. This is a part time volunteer position consisting of 20 hours/week. An interest in social service and social justice is encouraged.
The internship offers applicants the opportunity for real responsibility to help grow a critical program for an established non-profit. This is a great opportunity for a college student looking to enter the growing field of Nonprofit Management.
Essential Job Functions:
- Coordinate the gift aid drive amongst donors and UMMA partners
- Develop a logistics plan to distribute the gift packages to local refugee agencies
- Recommend improvements in the overall Refugee Outreach process
- Create a 3 year strategy for the Refugee Outreach program that aligns with UMMA’s Strategic Vision
- Work effectively with the Board of Directors and UMMA Staff to complete critical tasks
Requirements and Details:
- Availability to begin work starting in June 2011. The internship is for 20 hours/week and will be 10-12 weeks in length. Interns must be present at UMMA’s office in Downtown Waukegan.
- Genuine interest in the Nonprofit Sector
- Basic understanding of organization’s mission and activities (after accepting the position)
- Nonprofit Experience valued but not required
- This position requires a person with creativity and an Open Mind
