Volunteer Social Media/Marketing Summer Intern

The UMMA Center, a 501(c)(3) grassroots non-profit organization, seeks a Volunteer Social Media/Marketing Summer Intern to execute a comprehensive social media strategy. Primary responsibilities will involve planning and implementing outreach tactics through social networking, email marketing, and blogging, in addition to grassroots communications including strategic marketing events. An engaging and energetic personality is essential.  This is a part time volunteer position consisting of 20 hours/week. An interest in social service and social justice is encouraged.

The internship offers applicants the opportunity for real responsibility to help grow the media presence of an established non-profit. This is a great opportunity for a college student looking to enter the fast growing field of Social Media Marketing, or nonprofit management.

Essential Job Functions:

• Conceiving of and crafting a social networking presence through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.
• Designing a strong brand identity for the web site, blog, and email marketing efforts
• Encouraging greater web traffic through basic analytics and Google Adwords. UMMA is a recipient of the Google Adwords grant.
• Organizing summer marketing events in Lake County
• Creating powerful videos promoting UMMA’s impact to the community
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with small teams

Requirements and Details:

• Availability to begin work starting in June 2011. The internship is for 20 hours/week and will be 10-12 weeks in length.  Interns must be present at UMMA’s office in Downtown Waukegan.
• Genuine interest and enthusiasm for social media and marketing
• Basic understanding of organization’s mission and activities (after accepting the position)
• Social media experience (valued but not required)
• This position requires a person with creativity
